Why do I need to fix my inguinal hernia?
3rd March 2025
An inguinal hernia occurs when part of your intestine or tissue pushes through a weak spot or tear in the abdominal wall in the groin area. Whether or not you need to fix it depends on several factors. Here are some things to consider:
Symptoms: If you have mild symptoms like discomfort or a bulge, it might not be an immediate emergency, but you should still talk to your doctor. If you experience pain, swelling, or a more noticeable bulge, it’s best to have it evaluated.
Risk of Complications: Inguinal hernias can sometimes become “strangulated,” meaning the blood supply to the tissue inside the hernia is cut off. This can lead to tissue death, which is a medical emergency. If you have severe pain, nausea, vomiting, or a hernia that can’t be pushed back in, seek medical attention immediately.
Surgical Repair: The most common treatment for an inguinal hernia is surgery. In Prime Surgery, the laparoscopic method is done routinely. Surgery is often recommended to prevent complications, even if the hernia isn’t causing major problems.
It’s important to discuss your condition with a laparoscopic hernia specialist who can tailor the treatment to your condition.
